We demonstrate the existence of velocity-tuned (Doppleron) resonances in two [Formula Presented]- and [Formula Presented]-polarized standing waves, between the two ground-state sublevels of a [Formula Presented]-type system. We derive the resonance conditions, and the properties of these resonances. We show that fast population transfer between these states may take place, while excited atomic states are only marginally populated. We derive an interesting dependence of the transfer time on the relative spatial phase of the two standing waves.
