Oxyphilic adenoma of the lacrimal caruncle has been examined by means of the electron-microscope. Oncocytes composing the tumour were found to contain an excessive number of mitochondria whose irregular structure as well as the unusual lysosome-like figures contained in the cells pointed to pathologically disturbed metabolism. Also cells suggestive of lacrimal-gland cells appeared in the tumour: they presumably originated from the accessory lacrimal gland.
