The Cl− ion absorption band in NaF single crystals is described and the temperature dependence of the band parameters were measured. At room temperature the peak position is at 9.46 eV, the halfwidth is 0.5 eV, and the oscillator strength is 0.068. The obtained data were correlated with other similar halogen homologue systems. A new method is described for determination of the Cl− ion concentration in the crystals.
