The free radical scavenger activity of plant extracts

Abstract

The free radical scavenger activities of different plant material extracts obtained by conventional solvent extraction and supercritical fluid extraction methods were studied. The conventional solvent extraction was carried out with different solvents, i.e., ethanol, ethyl-acetate, acetone, 2-propanol, n-hexane, and methyl-ethyl-ketone, in Soxhlet extractor. Less extract can be obtained using the method, but sensitive compounds can be protected. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 18th International Congress of Chemical and Process Engineering (Prague, Czech Republic 8/24-28/2008).
