The effects of morphine (MO) and azidomorphine (AM) on twitches and acetylcholine release in longitudinal muscle strips of guinea pig ileum were studied. Both MO and AM caused inhibition of twitches. The ED50 values were 7 x 10-8 g/ml and 2.3 x 10-8 g/ml, respectively. 1.8 x 10-4 g/ml MO and 5.4 x 10-5 g/ml AM restored the contractile force.
