A new method was developed for the determination of the aggregation number of ionic surfactants in polymer - surfactant complexes. The method is based on the comparison of the measured mean activity of an inert electrolyte added in trace amount to the system to that calculated from the distribution of ions in the macro-ionic system. The local distribution of ions was described by the nonlinearised Poisson-Boltzmann equation applied for spherical cell model. In contrast with the view generally accepted in the literature it was concluded that the mean aggregation number of the surfactant in polymer - surfactant complexes does not depend on the polymer concentration.
