Radiotracer study of the adsorption of DL-α-alanine and γ-amino-butyric acid at a platinized platinum electrode

Abstract

Adsorption of 14C labelled DL-α-alanine and γ-amino-butyric acid was studied in acid (1 mol dm-3 HClO4) and in alkaline (0.1 mol dm- NaOH) media. The potential dependence of the adsorption and the mobility of the adsorbed species was investigated. It was found that in acid medium loosely and strongly adsorbed species were formed while in alkaline medium only strong chemisorption occurs. The behaviour of the adsorbed species is explained by the interaction of the functional groups with the electrode surface.
