Radiative capture cross sections for 14.7 MeV neutrons

Abstract

Radiative capture cross sections for 14.7 MeV neutrons have been measured for 17 nuclei between A = 23 and 209. Excitation functions in the range En = 13.4-15.0 MeV were measured for six of these nuclei. A plot of σn, γ against the target neutron number shows minima at the magic neutron numbers. The excitation functions suggest collective capture in (n, γ) reactions. The spin cutoff parameter has been estimated from the isometric cross section ratio for neutron capture in 103Rh.
