Quantitative determination of photorefraction in Mg doped congruent and stoichiometric LiNbO 3

Possibility of quantitative determination of photorefraction in Mg doped LiNbO 3 (LN:Mg) by the Z-scan method at the GW/m 2 intensity level is demonstrated. For the firs time, twenty times smaller damage sensitivity (n* e) is measured for stoichiometric LN:Mg than for congruent one. In the case of congruent and stoichiometric LN:Mg crystals n* e = 1.2-10 -13 m 2/W and . n* e = 6.6-10 -15 m 2/W, and for the nonlinear absorption coefficients β= 2.1-10 3 cm/GW and β= 1.7-10 3 cm/GW respectively, are measured.
