Prismatic pulse compressor for synchronously pumped mode-locked lasers

Abstract

In a synchronously pumped mode locked laser the group velocity dispersion due to a prismatic pulse compressor can be continuously altered while the cavity round trip time is being kept constant. This effect is achieved by moving one of the prisms along a special direction whose existence is proved both experimentally and theoretically.
