A nonoptimal topology is demonstrated on the basis of an evolutionary structural optimization (ESO) current rejection criteria for stress design. The modified version of this method was not able to rectify the topology because of high stress values and inserted additional elements. The failure of the rejection criteria was attributed to the variation in the sensitivity of the rejected element as its normalized density varied from one to zero.
