Abstract

Microfilariae have been reported as coincidental findings with various neoplasm. A case in with Dirofilaria repens microfilariae was encountered on aspiration cytology and biopsy in a nine-year-old male Rottweiler dog presented with a lameness, due to large hard mass in the thigh region of right hind limb. The general condition of the dog was very good without history of weight loss or rapid fatigue. At the time of examination the mass was felt, hard and contineous with underlying bone. The dog showed no symptom of pain upon palpation. Cytological and histopathological examination revealed malignant cells along with Dirofilaria repens larva.
