Crude or purified mouse interferon preparations activate adenylate cyclase and raise the level of 3'5' cAMP in L cells, though this activity does not parallel the antiviral capacity of the preparations. Poly I:poly C and poly A:poly U also activate adenylate cyclase and the effect seems to be correlated with the molecular size of the polymers. DEAE dextran, a polycationic substance, proved to be an effective activator of adenylate cyclase. The effect of the inducers and activators administered simultaneously seems to be additive.
