Mechanical damping effect of greases in instrumented impact testing

Abstract

A study was conducted to determine the damping efficiency of selected greases (pastes) with different visco-elastic properties. The effect of visco-elastic properties, thickness, and rate of testing on damping efficiency was clarified. Analyses of the data confirmed the importance of efficient damping at high-rate instrumented impact testing.
