Abstract

Examines how to improve the reliability of computed wind induced flow fields using current measurements on three shallow lakes (in Hungary and Finland). The assumption of spatially uniform wind stress is incorrect, and a better fit between modelled results and field data is obtained by using a fetch dependent wind stress field. Near shore an upwind transport is developed very close to the wind sheltered lake shore. (C.J.U.)
