Lymphocyte cytotoxic activity on embryonic colon target cell in patients with carcinoma of the colon

Research output: Article

Abstract

The lymphocyte and serum activity of patients with carcinoma of the colon, ulcerative colitis and healthy subjects were examined on embryonal colon cells labelled with 51Cr, using a semimicro lymphocyte cytotoxicity method. The value of the lymphocyte activity in patients with carcinoma of the colon was not higher than the values found in healthy subjects and patients with ulcerative colitis. No cytotoxic or blocking antibodies against colon cells were found in the serum of the patients. According to the data published recently, the carcinoembryonic antigen may be an autoantigen, and therefore no significant deviation of the lymphocyte cytotoxicity values is to be expected.
