Laboratory testing of the influence of illumination conditions on PV panel power yield

Abstract

Solar energy utilization is one of the preferred technologies for the green economy. For planning the generated power one has to know both the geographic and climatic and geographic conditions. The solar radiation reaches the PV panel in varying angular, spectral and polarization distribution. To incorporate this variation in the power estimation, one needs a more detailed characterization of the PV panels than the usually given maximum efficiency number. This paper present the results of the laboratory measurements for different commercially available solar PV panel types under different artificial illumination conditions and the results are compared to the claims of the manufactures.
