Kinetics of the homogeneous hydrogenation of cyclohexene catalyzed by hydridocobalt complexes formed in situ from CoH(N2)(PPh3)3

Abstract

A study has been made of the kinetics of homogeneous hydrogenation of cyclohexene catalyzed by hydridocobalt complexes formed in situ from CoH(N2)(PPh3)3 at room temperature under dihydrogen at atmospheric pressure, and has revealed that under certain conditions the following rate equation is approached:. Rate = kobs · [H2] · [olefin] · [Co] · [PPh3]-1 where [olefin], [H2], [Co] and [PPh3] are the concentrations of cyclohexene, dihydrogen, catalyst and free phosphine. The mechanism of the reaction is discussed.
