A simple and direct method has been worked out for distinguishing random and systematic "multiplets" in the counting of GM-pulses. This method has been applied to the study of the dependence of the average multiplicity of a GM-pulse on the overvoltage. It has been shown that the rise of the plateau of the counting characteristic is due in great part to the increase of the average multiplicity.
