Abstract
We have set out to document the current state of legislation and guidelines on insurance and genetic testing in different European countries, and to evaluate factors which will shape future developments in this complex area. The advantage of a Multi-national Demonstration Project such as this is that it can investigate the effectiveness of practice in different socio-economic contexts, their similarities and differences. These can be evaluated in the context of local services, the degree of public awareness and perception of cancer genetic issues, and the information discussed during predictive testing counselling sessions in cancer genetic clinics.
