The influences of ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, 2-butene isobutene, 1,3-butadiene and 1,5-hexadiene on thermal decomposition of propane has been studied in the temperature range 750 to 810 K, showing the effect of allylic-radicals formation. It is shown that these allylic radicals may also be chain carriers, but in case of their formation, the rate of decomposition is smaller. In addition, 1-butene and 1,5-hexadiene have an important role as chain initiators to the extent that they increase the process rate. A generalized scheme is given for the effect of olefins.
