Abstract

Numerical calculations performed at the Hückel and Hubbard-SCF levels indicate that the band gap of conjugated polymers exhibiting bond-length alternation can be significantly lowered by "tetramerization", i.e. introducing weak diagonal perturbations in a periodic manner.
