Hydrochemical data for mass occurrence of Haematococcus pluvialis (Chlorophyceae)

Abstract

Haematococcus pluvialis FLOTOW emend. WILLE is a widely distributed alga inhabiting small astatic waters. The species appeared in large amounts spontaneously in a laboratory aquarium and in an Erlenmeyer-flask filled with drinking water. The glassplates of the aquarium and the surface of the water were covered with a thick layer of immobile, spherical, red cells (aplanospores). This paper presents hydrochemical data as well as results of cultivation experiments performed in different media (chemical solutions, filtered waste water and freshwater).
