In the present study mast cells from different organs were examined for incorporation of biogenic amines and amine precursors to obtain more information on their dissimilarities and on the respective sites of formation and maturation. Thymus, intestines, stomach, mesentery and peritoneal fluid were embedded, semi thin sections were prepared, covered with Ilford K5 emulsion and developed in Kodak D19 solution after exposure for 16 days. The mast cells of the examined organs incorporated neither 5HT nor histamine. Peritoneal mast cells incorporated both histidine and 5 HTP.
