Abstract

Seven deep electromagnetic soundings were carried out at the 150 km long N-S profile crossing the High Tatra mountains. Five electromagnetic components have been recorded simultaneously during three weeks in the period range of 5-10000 s. The real induction vectors were estimated at all sets and three magnetotelluric soundings were determined. According to the results of 2D numerical modelling, the Carpathian conductivity anomaly is situated just beneath the High Tatras, at a depth of 10-20 km. The modelling has revealed a possible connection between this anomaly and the conductive sediments, which can be considered as the source of the phenomenon. It was also confirmed that the depth to the conductive asthenosphere in the southern part of the High Tatra mountains is less than in the northern part.
