This experiment was conducted on the Experimental Farm of the Institute of Horticultural Technology at Szent István University, Gödöllo, Hungary. A two year (2008 and 2009) open field experiment was conducted to study the effect of different water supply and accumulated stomatal conductance on the yield quantity and main antioxidant components (lycopene, total polyphenol and ascorbic acid). These two years were basically different in rainfall amounts and distribution, particularly in the vegetation period. The experimental design was randomized block, number of replications were four for each treatment. Brigade F1 variety was used. Two different treatments were applied: regularly irrigated (RI), irrigation cut-off 30 days before harvest (CO), compared with rainfed control (RF). Drip irrigated water was given out according to the air temperature. The irrigated plants gave a significantly higher yield, and rainfed plants showed a yield loss. Effect of irrigation (cut off 30 days before harvest and regularly irrigated) increased the total yield by 66 and 59% in 2008 and 383 and 174% in 2009 respectively.
