Abstract

The Matrix-Assisted Laser Desofption/Ionization (MALDI) and the Electrospray Ionization (ESI) methods can measure the exact mass of an individual polymer chain. From the exact mass measurement the endgroups can also be identified. In the case of narrow molecular weight distribution the number and weight average molecular weight can be calculated.
