On the basis of scintigraphic examination of 52 tumors of the salivary gland and the surrounding structures, the advantages of this method are discussed for establishing more accurate preoperative diagnosis. Using a mobile detector, gamma camera and multichannel analysator it may be determined whether the tumor originated from the salivary gland itself or from the surrounding structures. Within certain limits, conclusions regarding the histological structure of the tumor can be drawn from the isotope concentration of the tumors.
