Controlled impurity release from limiter-like erosion probes

Abstract

Experiments on impurity injection by erosion probes into the plasma of the tokamak MT-1 are described. Erosion probes of Ti and Pt were inserted into the edge plasma like a limiter. Optical spectroscopy and the collection probe method were applied to detect the injected impurities. Pulsed bias of the erosion probes was used to control the impurity release. This also gave the possibility of determining the plasma ion flow to the probe.
