Conditioning regimens for transplantation are important in transplant outcome. This review is focused on the experiences of transplantation in malignant haematological disorders using haemopoietic stem cells from HLA- identical allogeneic donors (sibling, other family donor, unrelated donor). Conditioning with a new regimen, and DBM/Ara-C/Cy is interpreted and compared to the classical TBI/Cy and Bu/Cy, and regimens for patients receiving autografts are also discussed. As haemopoietic stem cell transplantation is more and more widely used, controlled trials are essential to evaluate the effectiveness of specific treatment regimens in distinct groups of patients. Hopefully, a better understanding of the principle of bone marrow ablation in transplantation will guide us in developing better conditioning strategies.
