Abstract

Under experimental conditions intraperitoneal adhesions were created in dogs. After release of the adhesions an intestinal doubling according to Noble's method was created, as was a mesenterial doubling which was done according to a system devised by the authors. The effects on the surgery of the most frequently applied suture materials (linen, catgut, polyester and dexon) in terms of tissue reaction was tested. For the Noble procedure, polyester proved to be the best but for the mesenterial doubling the best material was dexon, a self-resorbing material.
