Brain enkephalin distribution is unaltered by hypophysectomy

Abstract

Methionine (met) and leucine (leu)-enkephalin were measured by radioimmunoassay in 16 brain regions removed by microdissection in intact rats. In hypophysectomized rats the regional concentrations of the enkephalins was not altered. Brain enkephalins do not appear to be derived from pituitary endorphins.
