A mass independent pre-filter arrangement for quadrupole mass spectrometer

Abstract

An improvement of a new computational method for mass independent optimization of quadrupole pre-filters is presented. Computer simulation of mass peaks and calculated ion-beam cross-sections support the predictions of the optimization procedure. Transmissions with respect to those of a single analyser are uniformly improved at pre-filter lengths corresponding to the minima of the suggested optimizing function at a fixed ion velocity. Measurements for light ions with the experimental setup constructed according to the proposed method are also in good agreement with the numerical results.
