1-MW, Sub-10-fs Ti:sapphire oscillator

Abstract

The results achieved with a linear-cavity Ti:sapphire oscillator that has been fully redesigned to yield maximum output pulse energy are presented. Several trade-offs had to be made to meet mutually contradictory requirements. However, it also enhances gain guiding in the Ti:S crystal, and thereby weakens the self-amplitude modulation effect introduced by self-focusing. The optimization procedure have led to optimum values of the pump and the resonator beam sizes in the gain medium, as well as the output coupling.
