X-ray diffraction study of the structure and phase transitions of C60-clathrates

Phase transition in C60-dimethoxymethane and C60-1-bromobutane clathrates were studied by X-ray powder diffraction. Both clathrates show phase transitions corresponding to orientational ordering. Although the two high temperature structures have very similar orthorhombic lattice the phase transitions take place in different ways. In the C60-dimethoxymethane sample there is no symmetry change while in the C60-1-bromobutane an orthorhombic to monoclinic transformation of the lattice can be observed.
