Abstract

Occurrence, veterinary and human pathological significance of the bacteria in the Pasteurella genus are reviewed. The main characteristics of P. multocida, P. anatis, P. avium, P. bettyae, P. caballi, P. canis, P. dagmatis, P. gallinarum, P. granulomatis, P. langaa, P. lympbangilidis, P. mairii, P. stomatis and P. volantium are discussed. Although P. baemolytica, P. pneumotropica and P. trebalosi are not, in the strict sense, members of the genus Pasteurella any more, for comparative reasons their main characteristics are presented as well.
