Very low- and low-grade Alpine regional metamorphism of the Paleozoic and Mesozoic formations of the Bukkium, NE-Hungary.

Abstract

The petrography, texture, structure, illite crystallinity, illite/ muscovite b and d002 parameters, graphite ordering and vitrinite reflectance data for some 900 samples have been used to characterize the regional metamorphism in this area. Fairly good correlation was found between the mineral assemblages of the greenschist, pumpellyite-actinolite and pumpellyite-prehnite- quartz facies of the metavolcanic rocks and the zone classification of the metasediments based on illite crystallinity and vitrinite reflectance data. From the temporal and spatial variations in T and P it is concluded that there is evidence for only one Alpine metamorphic event; Hercynian metamorphism cannot be distinguished. The load necessary for the minimal Pfluid of the Upper Triassic pumpellyite-actinolite facies metavolcanic rocks of E Bukk cannot be explained by normal burial.-R.A.H.
