Variational method for 1D spin chains

Abstract

We reports on a new variational method for determining the ground state energy of antiferromagnetic Heisenberg spin chains with nearest-neighbour interaction. The method enables one to extrapolate to the exact energy and it is shown that the first few approximations give better results than other approximate methods.
