Retrocorneal membranes develop mostly after perforating keratoplasty. Especially the aphakic eyes operated upon in cases of hyalokeratopathy are endangered (difference in thickness between the recipient and donor corneas, corneovitreal contact). The retrocorneal membrane is, in the majority of the cases, closely adherent to the posterior surface of the graft. Among our cases some special forms were observed where the retrocorneal membrane was found either in the anterior chamber virtually forming a false anterior chamber or it grew on the iris surface. Derivation and situation of the membrane could also be demonstrated histologically.
