Abstract

In this paper a treatment is simplified considerably by introducing the concept of ″conjoint″ sets of boundary points, reducing the complete description of the optimal geometry to two simple theorems. It is concluded that, for boundaries consisting of line segments, the optimal region boundaries always consist of line segments, parabolas, and hyperbolas. Finally, the proposed concepts are extended to curved boundaries, and the problem of supports over the interior of the domain is examined.
