Ultrastructural studies on D galactosamine HCl induced liver injury in mice

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate D galactosamine HCl (GalN) induced liver injury in mice by directing experiments towards: clarifying the morphologic similarities and differences between the GalN induced mouse hepatitis and human viral hepatitis; investigating the time course of the GalN induced damage and its restitution; and correlating biochemical and ultrastructural data using light and electron microscopy methods. It was found that despite the differing features reviewed, GalN induced liver injury in mice might serve as a useful experimental model for human viral hepatitis.
