Abstract

A Ti:S ring oscillator has been constructed which is formed by 4 broadband chirped mirrors. With the currently available chirped mirrors, the oscillator is capable of generating bandwidth-limited 7.5-fs pulses with a bandwidth of ≈ 120 nm centered at ≈ 790 nm. More importantly, the mode-locked bandwidth has been found to be limited by the constant-GDD bandwidth ΔνGDD of the oscillator. Since ΔνGDD is limited by the chirped mirrors, which can be further improved, this system offers, for the first time, the potential for approaching the gain bandwidth limit in a mode-locked Ti:S laser.
