In order to obtain the source function for an investigation of the transport, the radial and toroidal distribution of laser blow-off injected lithium atoms is investigated in a two-dimensional observation geometry. The effect of the different injection types on the 2D distributions is studied and the results are discussed in detail. For a 1 μm thick lithium target a broad toroidal distribution and a deep radial penetration is detected. Possible explanations of these observations are presented.
