Melatonin inhibits iodine uptake and elimination in the thyroid gland. If the melatonin is added before TSH then the iodine uptake rises and elimination decreases. With simultaneous application of the two hormones at first melatonin, later the TSH effect dominates. In such a way the melatonin can change the TSH effect.
