The primary decomposition processes of liquid ethylcyclohexane at 7.6 eV photolysis are H2 elimination, H atom detachment, ring opening at the tertiary C atom forming a biradical, and with low yield, ethyl elimination. Taking into account temperature and the Xe heavy atom effect the H2 elimination was assigned to singlet, the H atom detachment and the ring opening to triplet process. In radiolysis the main source of triplet excitations is probably the neutralization within the multipair spurs.
