Transport processes in clay and humate treated clay layers: An electrochemical and radioabsorption survey

Abstract

H/Al-montmorillonite and -bentonite clays, as well as humate-treated clays were investigated. The transport properties of the electroactive probe p-benzoquinone were studied by a cyclic voltammetric technique. Effective diffusion coefficients of 137Cs+ ions were determined by radioabsorption measurements. Results have been interpreted by considering the effect of organo-mineral complexes on permeability.
