Abstract

Aminoalcohols [1-7] can be converted into saturated ketones (selectivity > 90%) on copper chromite type heterogeneous catalysts. The synthetic application of this recently recognized reaction involving surface catalysed dehydrogenation, elimination and hydrogenation steps, simplifies the heterogeneous catalytic procedure used for α-methylation of ketones via Mannich bases.
