Abstract

Capillaries of the rat central nervous system (CNS) stain intensely for butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE). No such enzyme activity could be observed, however, in areas not protected by the blood-brain barrier. BuChE is located in the cytoplasms of endothelial cells, probably associated with pinocytotic vesicles.
