The serum T4, T3 and TSH levels and their response to repeated intravenous and oral TSH-administration were investigated in healthy people aged 20-40 years and 70-90 years. The results showed that the pituitary TSH release is not impaired in old age, but the TSH content of the gland is more readily exhaustible, a sign of decreased TSH secretion.
