Abstract

In connection with the discussion concerning the contractile mechanism of vertebrate smooth muscle two different kinds of filaments were previously found in intestinal and blood vessel muscles. In the present paper the authors demonstrate the presence of thick filaments in an additional kind of vertebrate smooth muscle, i.e. in urogenital smooth muscle. In this connection the effect of tension on the preservation of smooth muscle myosin filaments is discussed.
